Voter turnout was strong for Tuesday's primary election, more than doubling the 2004 primary, but it did not meet the expectations some had.

Statewide, roughly 50 percent of the voting-age population made it to the polls, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.

The Faculty Senate is requesting to meet with President Dougherty to discuss concerns about the rejection of candidates for the position of dean of the McAnulty College, according to an e-mail sent to Liberal Arts faculty members Wednesday.

The communication, sent to all College of Liberal Arts faculty members by senate member Matt Schneirov, said the faculty would like to know what criteria the President is using to make his choice, since all candidates submitted to the search committee fit the written qualifications mentioned in the advertisement for the position.

Ashley Wood scored the lacrosse team's first goal less than a minute into their April 18 game against LaSalle.
Duquesne baseball Head Coach Mike Wilson said earlier in the season that baseball is a game of momentum. But, it appears the tricky part about momentum is holding onto it.

The Dukes dropped their sixth game in a row with a 9-1 loss to West Virginia at Duquesne Field, Tuesday having given up 9 or more runs, five times in the past week.

Now, for most of us, that innocence that accompanies summer is far gone. The excitement of the last day of school becomes muddied when summer sessions and summer jobs start immediately after we complete other burdensome tasks. Summer becomes a mere transition from one season to another, more of a time game than a time off.

In case you didn't know, I'm currently in Ireland. What you probably didn't know is that I'm one-quarter Irish. At least I considered myself to be one-quarter Irish before I went to Ireland. I had hoped to connect with long-lost roots and perhaps find some remnant of my family from the "old world" but after being here a few months, I realized that I am 100-percent, unavoidably, proudly American.

Since my internship doesn't start until June, I need a way to get some cash to get the summer started right. So, I began brainstorming a plan: I have all these books I won't need after this semester, so I decided to go to the bookstore and return them for cash. Not a bad plan, right?

Yet, as I looked through my desk to gather my books, I discovered a lot of books from last semester and remembered something: the bookstore turned down more than half of my books down last time I tried to sell them back because they were using new editions for the next semester.

I'm sorry girls, but the facts all point to the same conclusion: Guys ultimately have it easier.

As if guys aren't lucky enough to forego the "joy" of childbearing, dodge most double-standards and have better paying jobs, it also costs less to be a boy.

Dear Editor,

I'm Michael Israel, was the Pitt Student who was interviewed outside of the Obama speech [for the article Obama takes his last stand in Pa.]. I feel that what I said was taken completely out of context, and that Sean [author Shawn Klocek] deliberately edited out the rest of what I said.

Dear Editor,

The latest facet of our society to succumb to a decline in standards appears to be the traditional college commencement speech.
