Duquesne and the Bank of New York Mellon are partnering for a networking event that will take place next Wednesday in the BNY Mellon building.
The free event is open to all registered Duquesne students. Attendees will learn how Mellon operates and gain important networking tips and contacts from Duquesne alumni, according to Duquesne Military Programs Director Don Accamando.
Accamando encouraged Duquesne business students to take advantage of the event.
"BNY Mellon's offer to introduce employees who are Duquesne alumni to our current students affords them a chance to learn first-hand what it takes to land a great job," Accamando said. "If you want to work there [BNY Mellon], this is how you do it."
This will be the second event BNY Mellon has held for Duquesne students in the past three years. According to Amy Bardol, campus relations director at BNY Mellon, about 30 students have registered.
Accamando said he is "delighted" when he receives invitations for events such as this one because it helps veterans, along with other students, registered at Duquesne connect with people in the business field.
"It also establishes a network of well-established colleagues in the business community. This will pay off when the veterans who are in our program now graduate and are looking for that big job opportunity," Accamando said.
Accamando said it is a tough market and for veterans who serve for a few years. The event is a great way to help increase a student's chances of being able to find a job after returning from military service, he said.
Bardol said students who plan to attend should bring résumés to hand out to a panel of Duquesne alumni.
"The networking event will start with a pretty simple, straight forward introduction about networking, allowing for students to get settled in," Bardol said.
The second part of the event will consist of a speech by BNY Mellon Cash Management Business Manager and Pittsburgh Executive Officer Tony Brady. Brady, a Duquesne alumnus, will provide insight to attendees hoping to land a job with BNY Mellon. Following Brady's speech, the floor will be open for students to ask questions.
To register for the event, visit www.zoomerang.com before Friday. Students can still show up the day of the event and be eligible to attend.
The event will be held from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Next Wednesday.
Parking will be available at the Chatham Garage, Manor Garage and Mellon Square Garage. Parking prices at those garages range from $8-$10.
