SGA votes 'no confidence' in Dougherty, seeks to reinstate Guter

The Duquesne Student Government Association (SGA) passed a resolution to vote for "no confidence in President J. Charles Dougherty as President of Duquesne University" after two hours of deliberation late Thursday night.

Duquesne President Charles Dougherty abruptly removed Donald Guter as Dean of the School of Law on Wednesday, while offering no explanation and leaving professors and students stunned. A news release dated Dec. 10 was posted on the University's Web site stating that the University named Duquesne Professor Ken Gormley interim dean of the School of Law.

Vocal students meet in Union

About 100 Duquesne students, including representatives from the Student Government Association (SGA) and the Student Bar Association , held a meeting Wednesday night to discuss a unified response to the removal of law school Dean Don Guter. Sponsored by the Student Bar Association, the group met on the sixth floor of the Union in the City View Café, in what one person referred to as "a gathering of concerned students.

Campus police officer catches murder suspect

A Duquesne University police officer will receive a Department of Public Safety award Thursday Dec. 11 for capturing a man involved in a Nov. 22 shooting that took place two blocks from campus on the corner of Fifth Avenue and Stevenson Street. Duquesne's green efforts are being recognized again, but this time, the University will get a paycheck for its hard work. The school's combined heat and power facility in the A.J. Palumbo Center has become the state's first approved distributed generation system for creating Alternative Energy Credits (AECs).
