Health Services links finals with stress, illness

It is an infirmity that strikes many students each year as finals week rolls around; and no, it is not spring fever. Stress, which can cause fatigue, nausea, aches and flu-like symptoms, make lying in bed seem much more appealing than studying for some students.

Students strike for Sudan

Ten Duquesne University students went on a 24-hour hunger strike Tuesday to protest the lack of humanitarian aid reaching people living through genocide in the Sudanese region of Darfur.

University names Labriola, Sora teachers of the year

Journalism and mulitmedia arts professor Joseph Sora accepts an award for teacher of the year. Along with Sora, Duquesne University honored the late Albert Labriola, former acting dean of McAnulty College and Graduate School of Liberal Arts, as teachers of the year for the 2008-2009 academic year.

As finals approach, student stress increases

Students pack into Duquesne University's Gumberg Library on Wednesday to take advantage of a reading day, which is a designated day for studying before final examinations officially start Thursday. According to Marie Hirsch, a nurse practitioner at the University's Health Services, the number of sick students who visit Health Services remains constant around finals, but the number of stress-related illnesses increases.

Sacrifice remembered

Duquesne University Police Sgt. Frank Cortazzo spoke Tuesday at a memorial mass in honor of the late Paul Sciullo II. Sciullo was one of three police officers who died when responding to a domestic violence call at the Stanton Heights home of Richard Poplawski.
