The Duquesne women's basketball team opens play in the Atlantic 10 Championship against George Washington University Friday in Philadelphia. The Dukes took a 76-50 win in January in their only game against the Colonials this season.

The Dukes enter the tournament as the seventh seed and the Colonials enter as the tenth seed. The Dukes finished the season 19-10 overall and 7-7 in the A-10 while the Colonials finished the season 11-17 overall and 4-10 in the conference.

Key Players

Look for the Dukes to rely on explosive offense from Alex Gensler, Carly Vendemia, Orsi Szecsi and Wumi Agunbiade. Expect Gensler to shoot 3-pointers and Agunbiade and Vendemia to knock in quick lay-ups and shots from within the paint.

The Colonials will rely heavily on offense from Megan Nipe, who scored a team high 14 points in the matchup against the Dukes. The Colonials will also depend on Nipe and teammate Brooke Wilson defensively for their rebounding abilities. The two had a total of 13 rebounds combined against the Dukes earlier this season.

Key Match-up

Agunbiade and Nipe are both rebounders and scorers for Duquesne and George Washington respectively. Look for the two of them to dominate the stat sheet.

Interesting Facts

Both teams are undefeated on neutral courts this season with the Dukes going 1-0 and the Colonials going 2-0.

There's still no word on whether or not Vanessa Abel will play. Abel missed the second half of the season with a stress fracture in her patella.

This is the second time in three championships the Dukes and Colonials will face off in the opening round of the A-10 tournament. In 2010, the Dukes defeated the Colonials 61-58 in  overtime.

The Dukes dropped four seeds from last season when they earned a first-round bye as the third seed.

The winner of this match-up will face number two seed Temple (20-8, 13-1). Both teams lost to Temple earlier this season at the Liacouras Center in Philadelphia.
