Letter to the Editor

Dear editor,

On behalf of the Uptown community, we send our extreme appreciation to the some 275 Duquesne students who participated, alongside 100 residents and others in the annual Greater Hill District spring cleanup on Saturday, April 14. Like a fine-turned army, three enthusiastic student groups thoroughly worked their way through Uptown streets and blighted lots, picking up all debris marring our streetscape. Credit for coordinating this welcomed enhancement project goes to Luci-Jo DiMaggio, Assistant Director of Spritan Campus Ministry, who ensured that all participants were assigned where they were needed most, had gloves, bags and necessary tool -- and were well fed and entertained! The spirit of camaraderie-- and a brighter community remain, and can continue with the responsible stewardship of us all.
